A) Oh, from your list? That would be documentaries.Should wearing motorcycle helmets and car seatbelts for adults be optional?Q) I suppose this is a philosophical question. Without doubt, IMO, it's daft not to wear these safety devices.
However, should it be illegal for adults to choose to behave in a way that only risks themselves? Dangerous sports and riskier lifestyle choices such as heavy drinking and smoking are legal after all.
Your views?
A) Very good question, because it raises fundamental issues about basic freedoms and liberties.
Not many people realise, that the seat belt legislation was the first piece of nannying legislation to be imposed upon us for our own good. It was unpopular at the time, because it was unprecedented as many of us realised.
On balance, it is probably wise to wear them, but not in every situation. If you have to escape from a car quickly, eg, you are about to drive into a river. I saw a person trapped, with the car upside down and petrol leaking out of the car. He couldn't get the belt off.
However, the above is beside the point. By and large, seat belts only protect the wearer. It is the fact that you are being told to wear them for your own good that breaches a fundamental freedom. I don't think anyone would mind them being a manufacturers option.
One argument that has been put forward against them, is that, what you should be doing is making the driver feel as insecure as possible, so that he will drive more carefully, and thereby, protect other road users and pedestrians in particular.
You could of coarse make that argument about all car safety features, particularly air bags, which incidentally, have killed people.
It was inevitable, that having introduced this oppressive piece of legislation, others would follow, as we have now seen. I think that people should be given as much freedom as possible. It is their life, and it is the risk takers that have pushed the boundaries in life ever wider, and we have all benefited. There would be no aeroplanes for example. So called passive smoking is grossly exaggerated as a risk to others.
Nannying tends to be a female trait. Also, I wonder how many of your respondants will completely miss your point of principle, and be swayed by the common sense nannying aspects. How to pull up short hair?Q) Dear yahoo answerers:
I had soft, fine brunette hair. It is below my shoulders, and I want to cut it badly. I was wondering: becasue I have an athletic lifestyle(lots of sport playing), I want to cut my hair short. The question is: How short can I cut my hair and still be able to pull it back? even if the ponytail has to be on top of my head, it is fine by me. I would prefer to have my hair just below the chin. If I wouldn't be able to pull it back into a ponytail, what other ways could I keep it off of my face?
A) I also have really fine hair, and if it's shorter than shoulder length it won't stay pulled back in a ponytail. But if you cut your hair to just below your chin you can pull the top layers back to still keep it out of your face. Headbands also work to keep it out of the way.what do you prefer wearing: shoes or trainers (or if you're from america or abroad sneakers) and why ?Q) i know that in formal and work- like circumstances, shoes are more acceptable, especially in the work place. but i prefer trainers myself. i like the fact that they are comfortable on your feet and they're not just for sport and other lifestyle and recreational purposes. i also prefer trainers because of the different brands, designs and colours. plus of the fact they have become something of a popular cultural icon in the past 30 years or so. of course there is the issue of people being paid crap wages and treated inhumanely in factories as those in indonesia, taiwan, china- all for producing and making the trainers. this has to be addressed
so out of the two, do you like shoes or trainers (or sneakers if you're american) and say why? also state what are your favourite brands of shoes and/or trainers
A) This is a really hard question for me to answer as i am a shoe addict! it depends on what mood I'm in or what the weathers like.
trainers are great for going shopping in coz they r so comfy, and they r great with a pair of jeans and a wee t-shirt. My favourite brands would be Nike, Adidas and Puma.
Shoes/boots can really smarten up an outfit. When i need a confidence boost i get out my knee high boots slap on a bit of make up and I'm good to go. I love the shoe shop Faith but i go anywhere for shoes as long as they r good quality.I can't sleep help!!!?Q) I don't seem to be able to get the good night sleep I need. I do sport, I have a regular lifestyle - although I tend to have my dinner very late nowadays - I don't drink coffe nor alcohol nor smoke. I drink camomille all day long at work! I know I have a lot going on my mind, but still... it is physical, I go to bed and then I wake up suddenly and it is the end of it!! even the sleeping from hte supermarket have no effects! help!! (oh and I don't want to be a addict of pills..)
A) I was told by a doctor that not getting to sleep was anxiety and waking up in the night was depression. You will know if this is an issue within your life or a sleep disorder. I think that counselling or something of that nature could help.
I would also look at sleep hygene such as going to bed and waking up at the same time. Just use your bedroom for sleep no tv or computer. Keep a sleep journal there might be a pattern to your sleep and an activity(also look at what your eating, could there be something stimulating you there ie food intolerance, cola or drinks that has caffine, some times medication has caffine). Try and eat earlier you are doing something energy intensive when your body is winding down. Make sure your room is dark. Have you tried those hynotherapy cds. I have found them very helpful.
I think if this is a long term issue for you then sometimes a doctor maybe be a port of call but do not let them put you on tablets if that is not what you wantAs the NHS has been hemorrhaging money for many years now is it time to introduce change.?Q) For lifestyle induced accidents and illnesses requiring long term medication and / or care. We theoretically live in an enlightened society where we know what is good and bad for our health and well being. However some seem to lurch from addiction and crisis without a concern for the consequences which deplete resources, depriving those of essential services who need them.
The NHS is already overstretched and I for one dont want to see it killed off. Make people pay insurance for their decadent lifestyle. I am talking smoking and alcohol related diseases, STD's, obesity, dangerous sports injuries,
What do you think?
A) I agree with you !!
The trouble is that when the NHS was formed it was treating less people; now the population has expanded; but sadly the available resources haven't.
I for one think; we would have a better health service if irresponsible people were made to pay.for health care; & also not letting imigrants have free health care.
Lifestyle Sports have just bought in to a chain in what country?A) Mexico? What is the title of the new sports lifestyle/business magazine that is published out of Arizona?A) Don't knowIf I was interested in getting into sports/lifestyle/fitness modeling what agencies are there to talk to?Q) for example working with bowflex, soloflex, nike, adidas, champion wear etc. informercials and print ads. does anyone know what agencies out there specialize in this sort of work?
A) Here is what i would do if I were in your shoes. Start doing figure competitions, maybe even bikini contests to build your resume. If you do well, they will find you.
Additionally, you could start calling some agencies and ask them if they are looking for fitness models. If so, you are set. If not, ask them who specializes in fitness models.
I would also suggest you email I few fitness competitors to ask them where they got their start. While I know a few places, it is good for you to do some research if it is a line of work you really want to get in.
Best of luck!
Trainer GreggHow does sponsorship in sports affect our lifestyle?A) Sponsorship in sports affect our livestyle greatly as we often buy products from the companies sponsoring our favourite sports team.
E.g. for me, I support Arsenal so whenever I want to buy handphones, I would buy the mobile phone sponsor supporting Arsenal-02.
For many people supporting say Man U, they would buy vodafone handphones instead of O2. Hence all these sponsors advertising on the sports stadiums or jersies of sports team can influence fans to buy and use their goods whether they are good and hence play a vital role in our lifestyle. How does sports, especially volleyball, help you maintain a healthy heart, body and lifestyle?Q) kindly relate it to cardivascular strenght and endurance. thanks
A) Does a sporting lifestyle consume your life?Q) I am a top of the line athlete and I don't know whether or not I want to pursue a career as an athlete or not. Would being an athlete consume too much of your life? I want to have time for women in my life as well as everything else. I'm only in high school now and I already spend so much time training. What do you guys think?
A) it most likely does consume your life
(i know gymnastics has TAKEN over mine lol)
but bascially, there is a very small chance that you will make it in the big times... not being mean or anything, like my step brother is in 10th grade and already getting college letter because of football, but i honestly dont think hes going to make it big time... its just soo small of a chance that you are better off persuing your life as something more feasible.
